Prof. Albert Speer

1972-1997

In 1972, the degree program "Spatial and Environmental Planning" was founded at the TU Kaiserslautern by Prof. Albert Speer and others - two years after the university was founded. This makes it the second oldest independent planning degree program in Germany after Dortmund. The founding concept had an integrated approach in which architects, spatial planners and later also civil engineers were taught together in the first semesters. This teaching concept was also reflected in the urban planning concepts: they were created jointly with traffic planners, landscape planners and architects, among others.

Prof. Albert Speer was thus one of the "founding fathers" of spatial planning education in Germany and worked at the chair from 1972 to 1997.
