The built heritage is an important foundation for a resilient city. The existing urban structure not only contains gray energy, it is also a carrier of identity, design quality and social cohesion. Particularly when it comes to climate resilience, there are always conflicts between monument preservation, design specifications and requirements for contemporary adaptation of existing buildings. This is exacerbated by other resilience aspects such as safety, protection and robustness.

The aim should be to understand building culture as part of urban resilience and to cooperate on an interdisciplinary basis between heritage conservation, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture and other disciplines.

Vanessa Ziegler gives an introduction to the importance of architectural heritage for resilient urban development. Liubov Apostolova-Sossa will present examples of resilient building culture from Ukraine. Together with other guests, we will then discuss how building culture can be holistically conceived and practically implemented as a factor that promotes resilience.

The colloquium will take place in hybrid form - in person at RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau, Pfaffenbergstraße 95, Building 1, Room 01-160, 67663 Kaiserslautern, as well as digitally via Zoom.

The event is recognized as further training by the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Architects. For the certificate of participation, please send an e-mail with your personal data including your membership number to: stadtplanung@ru.rptu.de
