Fengbao Liu's research deals with shrinking cities in Germany and China. The aim is to compare urban shrinkage in the German Ruhr area and Northeast China. The research will measure and define the phenomenon of urban shrinkage in different dimensions based on population data, DMSP/OLS nightlight data and different spatial scales such as prefecture and state level.
